Sing with the trees
Monday, December 2nd, 2024 | 12:30 - 13:30
at the Phenotyping Platform of the Wallenberg Laboratory
Umeå Plant Science Centre, Umeå Univeristy
"This performance is an unrehearsed work
that is part of the postdoctoral research
and experimentation output for ‘Of tree
nurseries remediating the colonial mem-
ory of landscapes’ (2023-24) by UmArts
Research Fellow, Luis Berríos Negrón.
Leaning on his arts and decolonial re-
search approaches to the space, act, and
metaphor of tree nursing, Luis has invited
his past Copenhagen-based collaborator
Félix Becker to contribute with sound art
and activist practice. Additionally, Luis
also invites the Umeå Barockkör to feature
in this novel collaboration. The choir,
directed by Esther von Schoenberg, see
their participation as “an immersive, ex-
perimental choir performance along Luis
Berríos Negrón.” This performance looks
to augment perspectival changes between
human, non-human, and more-than-hu-
man agencies, to address the form and
force of contradiction that characterizes
global warming, as well as the broadening
chiasm between the enslaving characteris-
tic of plantations and the virtues of future,
old and continuous forests. In all, and
stemming from the recent colloquium at
Bildmuseet, Luis looks to further explore
modes of research acquisition, repre-
sentation and dissemination through the
performance."
